| November
brought with it clear, high skies and above normal temperatures. Couple that with low
water and you get tough fishing conditions. All was well though on the North Fork. The fish were holding tight to the
deep, heavy riffles through the majority of the month, venturing out as the sun fell in
the sky.
During the day stonefly nymph patterns such as RW's latex,
Kaufmans, rubber legs and prince nymphs in sizes 6-14 fished near the bottom would peak
their interest. Egg patterns, either fished alone or as a dropper worked well, also.
|
| As the sun was setting, sporadic
hatches of blue-winged olives (pseudo) sizes 22-26, large white caddis, sizes 12-16, and
the occasional sulpher kept the die-hard dry fly fisherman entertained. These were fished
in either the adult or emergent state equally effectively. Soft hackles fished on the
swing were also catching fish. |

| December promises more rain and the fishing should continue to improve as
the Rainbows gear up for the spawn.
