My friend, Greg Wilson, and I, both from Arkansas, were first time visitors to the North Fork of the White River. We had read of the North Fork River in Trout Unlimited's 100 Best Trout Streams in North America and wanted to explore this River.

We learned of the River of Life Farm from Chuck Tryon's, FLY FISHING FOR TROUT IN MISSOURI, book and called and booked a couple of days with Myron McKee, who is the owner/operator of the River of Life Farm. I am glad we did.

We stayed in the new Tree House and found it very delightful. We fished the River Monday and Tuesday, the 2nd and 3rd of April, 2001. On the first day we fished from Myron's front yard, "The Falls," down to the Tree House. Not much luck....I don't believe we had the River figured out at this point.

Had we, I believe we would have caught some trout because the area was wonderful trout habitat. In the afternoon we drove around exploring and wound up fishing at the Patrick's Bridge area. Nice parking and good water for wading. A lot of fish were rising, and we hooked and landed at least a half a dozen apiece.

Elk hair caddis and parachute Adams seemed to work well and at times we would switch to soft hackles and get a few more hits. Some of the trout were rainbows, but most were browns.

Tuesday, Myron took us up to Kelly's Ford and rowed us up to Lambs Shoal to begin our float back to his house at The Falls. The action picked up when we both switched to Prince Nymphs. After getting on this fly, it was only of matter of getting in the strong chutes in the shoals and making a good drift. We each caught several nice rainbows each. We would have been better off if we had received our instruction from Myron on our first day!

The North Fork of the White is a beautiful river, and fishing the Wild Trout Management Area is a treat in itself. Myron and his wife, Ann, are wonderful hosts and if you plan to fish this River, I highly recommend that you stay at the River of Life Farm.
