| Sunday Oct. 15, after a three and one-half hour drive in the badly needed rain, my nephew’s hopes and mine were in high gear. We are always happy to have a chance to go fishing together and very eager to wade in new water. This was our first time to the ROLF and the North Fork River and we were hoping for some good fishing even though we were told that fishing was slow. |
| We arrived at the farm at approximately three P.M. to find that our cabin was not empty yet and still needed to be cleaned, so Myron gave us a complimentary float from Kelly’s Ford down to the farm. With-in minutes we were in the van and on our way. An absolutely beautiful float…the foliage was breathtaking the fishing was great but the catching not-so much. No fish brought to the net on that float. |

After landing at the farm we got our cabin and started unloading our stuff. The
Chalet was much more than I expected, and a great home away from home.
Myron and Ann’s hospitality is outstanding…some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met.
Monday’s float started at The Falls and lasted until the second bridge (Patrick) downstream. With a steady rain the night before and rain in the early part of the float we expected the water to cloud up a little bit and give us a slight advantage on the trout. The day really didn’t work out as we wanted. The water never did cloud up, even after a pelting rain about a mile into the float. We did manage to catch the sight of a bald eagle, and land six trout and many other fish all before the Blair Bridge.
The water after the Blair Bridge was not very productive. Of the six trout caught that day two were rainbows, caught on a spinning rod with a black and yellow jig. Both were about ten or so inches and very pretty fish. The others were brown trout, three on a fly rod, throwing a black sculpin and the other on a spinning rod with a black and yellow jig.
Tuesdays float started at Kelly’s Ford. The weather and water were awesome, but the fishing slow until The Falls. Below The Falls I landed a nice 13 inch rainbow (a very pretty fish), on a white woolly worm. |
| Thanks to the advise of Brian
Suchman…he told us we had to have something white so we tied them the night before. The rest of the float brought five more trout for me and two for my nephew
Wess. The largest being a 16" brown caught on a spinning rod with a black and yellow jig. |

A nice 16 "brown trout caught by Wess.

The next day we wade fished from McKee Bridge down to The Falls with no luck at all. We threw everything in our fly boxes but were unsuccessful.. So we had a little fun above The Falls catching some very large stonefly's and crawdads, if only the trout were so easy to catch as the stonefly's… and we even threw stonefly's most of that day, go figure?
All in all it was a very good trip, the scenery was wonderful and the fall foliage was something to behold. Myron and Ann were great hosts with a real knack for making you feel at home.
I’ll be back for sure. I saw some awesome size browns out there that I want another shot at!
