Throughout the ROLF Website you will find numerous shots of "The Falls", the icon of the North Fork River. This is the spot all the canoers are warned about and hear stories of. Why is The Falls so prominent on the ROLF Website?   Because The Falls are located adjacent to the heart of the ROLF! We have the only accessible footpath to get a chair side seat of the action, or you can view the follies from your mountain side deck.

If you are are thinking about floating the North Fork River, please don't let all these pictures of The Falls give you a misimpression that the river is not suitable for beginners or family floats. It is.

For those unadventurous types, it is easy to bypass (portage) The Falls by "walking"  your canoe over the shallow edge in slow water at the eastern (left side, facing downstream) edge.

For those wanting some FUN and also want to stay safe, read carefully for tips on what NOT to do.

Enjoy!

Important Safety Tips

DO NOT take a child through who is not wearing a life jacket or who is fastened into a chair, such as a child seat.

DO NOT drink excessive alcohol while canoeing. There is a direct correlation between blood alcohol content and accidents on the river.

DO NOT put your fingers over the edge of the canoe, as if you brush aside a rock you can do severe damage to your fingers.

DO NOT have expensive items laying loose in the canoe. They should be in a Dry Bag that floats, and be fastened to the canoe.

Sometimes there are good Samaritans on-hand with SCUBA gear to help your locate lost items, if you dump your canoe.
